We are looking for a Legal Advisor to join our team of innovative, passionate and savvy activists. You will be working on the frontline and making real change in Australian politics.

The Legal Advisor will: :

• Work with GetUp’s Legal Director to advise on campaign and corporate activities and ensure they are conducted in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including defamation, copyright, fundraising, consumer, energy, data, privacy, electoral and corporate laws and regulations.
• Find opportunities to work on groundbreaking cases relevant to our campaigns;
• Assist with corporate compliance work, including preparing board papers (not all strictly legal work);
• Assist with researching and drafting submissions to government; .
• Draft, review, advise on and assist in the negotiation of commercial contracts, partnership agreements and other contractual arrangements between GetUp and third parties.

We’re looking for someone who:

Non-negotiable:

• Has a demonstrated commitment to GetUp’s values;
• Has excellent legal analysis skills and the flexibility to work across a wide range of topics in a dynamic environment;
• 2-4 years’ experience in a mid-large firm or government department; and
• Holds an unrestricted practicing certificate.

Preferable:*

• Excellent business judgment, communication and interpersonal skills, and a crisp writing style.
• Experience working in the not-for-profit space or in-house;
• Experience in any of administrative law, litigation or commercial contract drafting;
